The ADA, The Americans with Disability Act has changed the face of America. More than new rights and protections under this civil rights law. The disability community gained access to the goods and services like everyone else.
This law offers new clients to businesses. Participation by business and governments are opening opportunities for people with disabilities to become equal citizens. These pages offer a variety of resources for understanding, assistance, and support in seeing how this law affects you.

Find the CIL or Center for Independent Living in your state or territory. Discover the services they offer.
Personally, I have extensive experience with CIL’s and I know the wide range of services they provide. Serving as an Executive Director for the CIL in Atlanta, GAL, reinvented the center as disAbility Link. The new center works with people on a wide variety of topics to resolve their individual problems.
- People with disabilities, their families, friends, loved ones, bosses, coworkers and community members.
- Need information, referrals, peer support, advice, advocacy and someone to talk to about their problems.
- Businesses problems as both vendors and employers include:
- Advice and assistance with Accessibility, Accommodations, ADA compliance, Training, and more issues.
- Various local, state and federal agencies need help with:
- ADA compliance and accessibility. These are issues for them too.
- Outreach to and problem resolution with the disability community
Working as a Board Member and Officer for two other CIL’s I saw a similar impact. Plus each one services the individual needs of their community.
This page is to educate everyone about Service Animals with the goal of preventing misunderstands or conflicts.
Owners of Service Animals need to understand their responsibilities, as well as their rights.
Business owners, their staff and anyone working in a public location should all educate themselves about Service Animals. The growth in use of Service Animals and other support animals makes it increasingly likely you will encounter one in a business situation. Be prepared.
